About Eskdale and Liddesdale
The charge of Eskdale and Liddesdale was formed by union of Lanholm,Ewes,Eskdalemuir, Westerkirk and Liddesdale on teh 1st January 2025.
Nestled among the rolling hills and valleys of the Scottish Borders, the Charge of Eskdale & Liddesdale is a parish rich in history, hospitality, and faith.
Covering the communities of Langholm, Ewes, Westerkirk, Eskdalemuir, and Newcastleton, the charge forms a network of worshipping congregations bound together by shared faith, friendship, and service. Each church brings its own story and strength — from Langholm’s town-centre worship to the quieter rural settings of Ewes and Eskdalemuir, Westerkirk and Newcastleton where tradition and reflection run deep.
The congregations of Eskdale & Liddesdale share a long history of cooperation across the valley — places where faith and community life have always been closely intertwined.
Together they seek to share Christ’s love in practical and visible ways: through worship, pastoral care, community outreach, and service.
From family services and café-style worship to quiet spaces for prayer and reflection, the charge offers a variety of opportunities for people to gather and grow in faith.
Recent initiatives have included seasonal “Quiet Space” prayer events, creative worship for all ages, and participation in local agricultural and village shows.
At the heart of Eskdale & Liddesdale’s ministry is a simple conviction — that the Church is called to be a bridge between people and places, connecting faith with everyday life.
Whether it’s through worship in a small country kirk, community gatherings in Langholm or Newcastleton, or pastoral support offered quietly across the valley, the aim is to make everyone feel part of a living community of faith.
Children and families are welcomed through holiday clubs, storytelling worship, and community partnerships, while pastoral care remains a constant presence for those facing illness, bereavement, or change.
As the congregation looks to the future, it does so with gratitude for all that has been — and with hope for what lies ahead.
Partnership, prayer, and perseverance are shaping this next chapter, as the people of Eskdale & Liddesdale continue to listen for God’s call and respond with faith.
