About Canonbie United
Set in the beautiful south of the Scottish Borders, Canonbie United Church serves a warm and welcoming rural community along the River Esk.
The congregation draws people from the village of Canonbie and the surrounding countryside, offering a place of worship, fellowship, and care at the heart of village life.
Canonbie is part of a linkage with Eskdale & Liddesdale, working together across the valley communities of Langholm, Ewes, Westerkirk, Eskdalemuir, and Newcastleton.
The linkage allows the congregations to share ministry, mission, and fellowship while maintaining their distinctive local traditions and worshipping life.
Canonbie United is known for its friendliness and active community spirit.
Each week, the church hosts a much-loved Community Café, providing a welcoming space where neighbours and visitors can meet, share conversation, and enjoy refreshments in a relaxed and inclusive setting.
The church also enjoys a close ecumenical association with the Canonbie United Free Church of Scotland, working together in worship, pastoral care, and community outreach.
This partnership is a visible expression of Christian unity and shared witness within the village, strengthening the church’s presence and ministry across the area.
Worship at Canonbie blends traditional and reflective styles, with thoughtful preaching, prayerful music, and a strong sense of belonging.
The congregation regularly takes part in village events such as the Canonbie Flower Show, seasonal celebrations, and shared services across the linkage.
Together with the linked congregations of Eskdale & Liddesdale, Canonbie United seeks to build bridges of faith and friendship across the Borders — nurturing discipleship, caring for one another, and engaging with the wider community in Christ’s name.
