Safeguarding Committee

The Safeguarding Committee are mostly qualified Safeguarding Trainers. The committee meet regularly to keep up to date with the required changes in training as national and Church of Scotland legislation. It is the responsibility of the committee to ensure all congregations in the Presbytery comply with the requirements of the General Assembly and national legislation


The Remit of the Safeguarding Committee

The remit is to ensure that all statutory and General Assembly requirements are adhered to and that the protection of children and vulnerable adults is at the forefront of all presbytery policies and procedures.


Information

The Presbytery have Safeguarding Trainers who are qualified to deliver the three courses delivered at Presbytery level both face to face and on line. These are Introductory Safeguarding Training, Advanced Safeguarding Training and Trustee Safeguarding Training.

All congregational trustees are required to attend Trustee Safeguarding Training every 3 to 5 years. It is preferred to deliver these courses are face to face and attendance on the on line courses should be kept for those unable to attend the face-to-face course. The online course format cannot accommodate more than two people per screen.

All church workers volunteers and employed staff who are in a regulated role involving children or protected adults are required to attend an Introductory Safeguarding Training course every 3 to 5 years.

All members of Congregational Safeguarding Panels including Congregational Safeguarding Coordinators are required to attend an Advanced Safeguarding Training course every 3 to 5 years.

Ministers are required to comply with the Safeguarding Learning Pathway. The first three courses are available at Presbytery level the last course in the Pathway the Minister's course is delivered by the Safeguarding Office.

Bill is an active elder at Alloway and Fisherton Parish Church where he is Safeguarding Coordinator. He completed his police service some years ago and has a lifetime interest in young people and older people alike. Bill is also a Worship Leader assessor and has spent years as an Interim Moderator. He is a very busy Grandad who, when he manages to find time can be found in his garden or behind a canvas with a paintbrush in hand.
